Kauai Air Tour FAQs

Straightforward answers for your helicopter or airplane adventure—from choosing a cabin to getting ready for takeoff.

View through a sightseeing airplane window

Choosing your flight

Should I choose a helicopter or an airplane?

Helicopters offer compact cabins and a choice of enclosed or doors-off experiences on selected flights. Airplanes offer a broad scenic perspective, with shared Airvan and private Cessna options. Compare the flight length, seating, door configuration and total price to choose the experience that suits your group.

What is the difference between doors-on and doors-off?

Doors-on flights have an enclosed cabin. Doors-off flights offer open-air views with additional clothing, loose-item and passenger requirements. Confirm the exact configuration and requirements for your chosen tour before reserving.

How long are the tours?

The flights featured here range from a 20-minute helicopter experience to approximately 65-minute airplane tours. Many full-island sightseeing options are around 45–60 minutes. Check-in and briefing time are additional; follow the arrival time on your confirmation.

Does everyone get a window seat?

The airplane tours featured on our airplane page offer window seats for every guest. Private R44 flights also offer window-side seating. Other helicopters may have interior seats. Operators assign seating for weight and balance, so do not assume a specific seat or front-row position is included.

Are private flights available?

Yes. The Robinson R44 is a private helicopter option for two or three guests, subject to weight limits. Private Cessna flights are also available. Availability and minimum booking requirements depend on the selected tour.

Scenery, routes & departure

What places might we see?

Full-island itineraries may feature the Na Pali Coast, Waimea Canyon, Manawaiopuna Falls, Hanalei and Mount Waialeale, along with other coastal and valley scenery. The pilot adjusts the route to conditions. The map is a highlights guide, not a guaranteed itinerary.

Do tours land at waterfalls or other scenic places?

Do not assume that a sightseeing flight includes a landing. A waterfall or other scenic landing must be explicitly included in the tour you book. Most options shown here are aerial sightseeing experiences.

Where do flights depart, and when should I check in?

Many tours depart from Lihue Airport; some helicopter options may depart from Princeville. Check the selected tour and use the operator’s confirmation for the exact office or terminal, parking instructions and arrival time. The airline passenger terminal may not be your check-in location.

Before you fly

Can children fly?

Minimum ages, seating rules and doors-off requirements vary by operator and aircraft. Check the rules for the exact flight and every child in your party before booking. Contact us if you need help comparing family-appropriate options.

Are there weight or seating restrictions?

Yes. Aircraft have individual and combined passenger limits, and some bookings may require an additional seat or have other charges. Provide accurate passenger weights and review the operator’s current policy before paying. Private does not mean unrestricted seating or weight capacity.

What should I wear and bring?

Bring your booking confirmation, any identification the operator requests, and an approved camera or phone. For photos through windows, dark clothing helps reduce reflections. Wear secure footwear and follow your operator’s clothing and loose-item instructions, especially for doors-off flights. Confirm how devices must be secured; do not bring loose accessories aboard without approval.

When should I schedule my flight?

Booking early in your Kauai stay gives you more flexibility if weather requires rescheduling. Light, cloud cover and winds change throughout the day; no departure time guarantees perfect conditions or every landmark.

Reservations & changes

What happens if weather affects the flight?

The operator and pilot decide whether a flight can operate and which route is appropriate. A tour may take an adjusted route, be delayed or be cancelled. Review the operator’s weather, rescheduling and refund terms before booking; policies vary.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellation deadlines, change fees and no-show rules are specific to the operator and tour. Read the terms displayed in the booking calendar before payment, and keep your confirmation. There is no single cancellation policy covering all the flights on this website.

How do I see current prices and availability?

Use the Check Availability button for your flight to open the participating operator’s reservation system. The calendar shows current options, prices and applicable terms. For flights booked by phone or help comparing tours, call 888-508-9948.

Who operates the flight I book?

Kauai Helicopter Adventures helps you compare flights and reserve with participating operators. Your selected helicopter or airplane company operates the flight and provides the final confirmation, check-in instructions and flight policies. We can help you choose the right option.
