Flying With Jack Harter Helicopters

By Kauai Helicopter AdventuresPublished Updated

Flying doors-off in a Hughes 500 is a memorable way to see Kauai. The small cabin puts the open doorway beside the scenery, with space for up to four guests and a choice of a shorter interior flight or a full hour in the air.

Our Jack Harter Hughes 500 tour page brings the current flight options, seating guide, passenger requirements and live booking calendar together. Start there when you are ready to compare departures.

Choose 20 or 60 minutes

The 60-minute doors-off flight provides more time for island scenery, scenic turns and views of valleys, waterfalls and coastline. The additional time gives the pilot more opportunity to explore when conditions permit. It does not guarantee access to every landmark.

The 20-minute flight is a shorter experience focused on Kauai’s lush interior and the Mount Waiʻaleʻale area. It is not a full-island tour. If the Na Pali Coast or a broad island route is your priority, compare the longer flight’s description before reserving.

Understand the Hughes 500 cabin

The illustrated cabin has two guests beside the pilot in front and two in the rear. The front middle position is not a doorway-side seat, and views differ between the front and rear. Seating is assigned for aircraft weight and balance.

Review the current seating diagram and passenger restrictions before booking, especially if front seating matters to you. A photograph or diagram explains the layout; it is not a seat reservation.

Prepare for a doors-off flight

  • Read the operator’s clothing and loose-item instructions in your confirmation.
  • Bring only approved cameras or phones and secure them as instructed by the crew.
  • Stay seated and restrained, and follow the crew’s directions throughout the flight.
  • Provide accurate passenger information and check the flight-specific age, height and weight requirements.

For photography, removing the window removes a source of glass reflections. Wind, vibration, your seat and the changing light still affect the photographs you can take. Our helicopter photography guide has more planning tips.

Prefer an enclosed cabin?

Compare the options on our ASTAR helicopter page or consider a private R44 flight. Door configuration, operating dates and passenger rules depend on the selected tour.

Check current fares and departures in the Hughes 500 booking calendar. Your confirmation provides the final check-in location, arrival time and tour terms. Call 888-508-9948 if you need help choosing a flight.
